Natural and man-made materials:

Natural materials come from animals, plants or  nature.

Leather comes from an animal.

Wool comes from a sheep.

Cotton comes from plants.

Gold comes from nature.

Man-made materials come from other materials.

PROPERTIES OF MATERIALS:

Some materials are transparent.

Glass is transparent.

Some materials are resistant.

Steel is resistant.

Some materials are flexible.

Paper is flexible.

Some materials are elastic.

They can stretch and return to their original shape.

Some materials are hard.

A rock is hard.

WEIGHT AND VOLUME.

All objects have weight. 

We use scales to weigh objects.

Volume is the space an object occupies.

To measure the volume of an object we put it in water.

Some objects float in water.

A cork floats  in water.

A key sinks in water.

MATERIALS CHANGE:

Materials can exist in three different states:

solid, liquid and gas.

Water is a liquid.

Wood is a solid.

Smoke is a gas.
